Propolis was created in 2026 by students at Indiana University - Bloomington: Kennedi Bruns, Katelyn Fry, and Cooper Smith. The experiment was developed as part of a Materials Design course taught by Professor Maxwell Fertik in the Eskenazi's School of Art, Architecture + Design's Comprehensive Design program.

Propolis was presented in NYC as part of the 2026 Biodesign Challenge Summit as an exploratory narrative on human interaction with ecological systems.
